Here are today’s particulars.
Cade Horton, RHP vs. Andrew Abbott, LHP
Cade Horton seems to have turned the corner in his MLB career. He’s got a 17-inning scoreless streak entering this start, and though his walk rate is still a bit higher than you’d want, he also seems to have the knack of working his way out of those situations.
Last five starts: 1.42 ERA, 1.047 WHIP in 28.2 innings, with only one home run allowed.
He’s never faced the Reds. Two current Reds, Will Benson and Tyler Stephenson, faced Horton when he was with Triple-A Iowa, while they were on rehab assignments with Triple-A Louisville April 23, for just a couple of at-bats each.
Andrew Abbott is the Cy Young candidate few have heard of. He’s having an outstanding year for the Reds, and in two starts vs. the Cubs this year he has allowed one run in 12.2 innings. The last time he faced the Cubs, May 30 at Wrigley Field, he allowed one hit in seven innings.
Good luck, Cubs hitters. You’re gonna need it today.
Please visit our SB Nation Reds site Red Reporter. If you do go there to interact with Reds fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.
The 2025 Game Thread procedure will be identical to last year’s.
You’ll find the game preview posted separately on the front page two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games).
At the same time, a StoryStream containing the preview will also post on the front page, titled “Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of week/date) game threads.” It will contain every post related to that particular game, including the First Pitch Thread and the overflow thread, as well as the recap when it’s published. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post.
You will also be able to find the preview, First Pitch Thread and the overflow thread in the box marked “Chicago Cubs Game Threads” at the bottom of the front page (you can also find them in this section link). The StoryStream for each game can also be found in that section.
The First Pitch thread will post at five minutes before game time, then an overflow thread at 90 minutes after the scheduled game time.
