Just a quick community note that apparently in the transition from one platform to another, AN/SB Nation/Vox is experiencing some technical pains that will take a couple days to sort out.
The casualties have included difficulties giving writers access to the tools to write and publish new articles along with some glitches you have probably noticed. But what you see now is not entirely what you will get once our mighty tech overlords, probably sacrificing sleep and sanity, complete the Oopsies Management Program.
When the dust clears we will back to a site with daily game threads and recaps along with pointless analysis from me and others, on a site that will look largely the same as before but with some visual changes — whether for the better or worse is subjective but likely it will be a bit of both in the eyes of most.
I will wait until the “real” new platform is evident before opining whether the improvements outweigh the negatives or vice versa, but what I am personally most pleased about is the presence of Fanposts (in the form of “the feed”) finally being returned to prominence so as to more easily engage the entire community as content contributors.
The other point I want to make during this transitional period is that undoubtedly “the powers that be” will be getting a lot of reader feedback on what isn’t going over well — and hopefully that feedback will be incorporated quickly into some tweaks.
One example is the weird light text when you are writing a comment that doesn’t become very legible until you publish the comment. That seems both sub-optimal and fixable (or not, I have no idea), as are probably other things folks are noticing. Please bring any feedback to threads like this so it can be passed along in the “tweaking/correcting” phase of the transition. (And also please know that not all ideas can or will be implemented.)
Most of all: patience, grasshopper, as this is a transition week and not a reflection of any new normal. Hopefully we can have a game thread and recap later today, some glitches corrected or improved, and the bumps in the road a distant memory. And hopefully on this new platform the A’s can average 16 runs/game.
