Friends of Baseball, a nonprofit dedicated to contributing to opportunities to play baseball in Northern Colorado, has renamed its annual golf tournament scheduled for next month in memory of a former member who died earlier this year.

The John Dollarhide Memorial Tournament will be held Friday, Sept. 19 at the Greeley Country Club, 4500 W. 10th St. in Greeley.

The tournament begins at 9 a.m. The cost is $1,200 for a foursome. Proceeds from the event go toward funding local baseball programs, providing equipment, scholarships, and access to quality coaching and recreation, according to Friends of Baseball.

Dollarhide was a longtime Greeley resident and Friends of Baseball member who died in April.

Golfers will have a chance to play with former Major League Baseball players from the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association. The former \players who have committed to attend the tournament are: Gary Sheffield, Von Hayes, Lance McCullers, Tim Unroe, Ron Robinson, Jerry Browne, Brian Fisher, Reid Nichols, Steve Trachsel, Mark Knudson, Mike Gallo and Bryan Clark.

The number of teams in the tournament will be limited.
