The Los Angeles Dodgers designated right-handed pitcher Jack Little for assignment earlier this week. By Wednesday, the rookie already found a new home when the Pittsburgh Pirates claimed him off waivers from the Dodgers.

Little made two appearances for the Dodgers this season, allowing two earned runs on four hits across three innings of work with the defending champions in 2025. The right-hander made his Major League debut on June 19 against the San Diego Padres.

The rookie plunked Fernando Tatis Jr. on a 1-1 fastball during the Dodgers’ rivalry series against the Friars. Tensions reached an all-time high following the hit by pitch, which marked the third time Tatis had been struck by a Dodgers pitcher in the last nine days, and benches proceeded to clear.

Padres manager Mike Shildt ran out of the dugout to check on Tatis, and began yelling in the direction of Dave Roberts. The two skippers confronted each other near home plate, which resulted in both Shildt and Roberts getting tossed.

“I’m taking starters out of the game, trying to get this game over with and get this kid a couple innings,” Roberts said following the rivalry game in June. “And so that’s why, I felt, I took that personal. Because I understand the game, and I understand that it doesn’t feel good to get hit.”

Both of Little’s appearances for the Dodgers were against bitter rivals, the Padres and Houston Astros. Now, the rookie will begin a new chapter of his career with the Pirates.
