The Chicago White Sox made several roster moves today, headlined by placing infielder Chase Meidroth on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to August 4, due to a right thumb contusion. The injury occurred on July 30, 2025, when Meidroth was hit by a pitch from Philadelphia Phillies starter Taijuan Walker. He appeared just once as a defensive replacement days later, but has not been utilized since.

In a corresponding move, the White Sox selected the contract of infielder Jacob Amaya from Triple-A Charlotte to fill Meidroth’s roster spot. Amaya, who appeared in 33 games for the big league team earlier this season, is expected to provide depth in the infield while Meidroth recovers.

Additionally, the team designated right-handed pitcher Gus Varland for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Amaya. Varland, who has seen limited action this season with just seven appearances for the Triple-A Charlotte Knights, now enters the DFA process, clearing a spot on the 40-man roster.

No specific timeline has been provided for Meidroth’s return, but the White Sox will monitor his recovery from the thumb contusion. Further updates will be shared as he progresses through recovery and possibly a rehab stint.
