Here’s a look at where the Mariners stand in the playoff race with 46 games left in the season.

After starting the week 2 1/2 games behind the Houston Astros for first place in the American League West, the M’s pulled within 1 1/2 games of their heated division rival. They also moved to three games in front of the third-place Texas Rangers.

Despite not holding first place in the division, Seattle now has the highest odds among AL West squads of reaching the playoffs at 86%, per FanGraphs. Houston’s odds sit at 84.7% and Texas’ at 34.8%. The Astros still have the highest chances of winning the division at 48.2% compared to Seattle’s 45.1%. The Rangers’ odds of winning the division are just 6.6%.

The Mariners also hold the highest chances in the division of winning the World Series at 8.3%, which are the fourth-highest odds in MLB and second in the AL. Houston is at 4.9% and Texas 1.5%.

AL wild card race

The sweep helped Seattle surpass the New York Yankees and climb from the third and final AL wild card spot to the second. The M’s are one game back of the Boston Red Sox for the top wild card berth and 1 1/2 games in front of the Yankees, who hold the third wild card berth. The Rangers and Cleveland Guardians are each three games behind Seattle.

The Mariners lead wild card contenders in overall playoff odds. The Yankees are second at 83% and Red Sox third at 75%.
