Chicago Cubs reliever Andrew Kittredge etched his place in baseball history on Wednesday afternoon.

As part of a 6-1 over the Cincinnati Reds, the Washington Huskies alum tossed an immaculate seventh inning. An immaculate inning requires that the pitcher strike out all three hitters on three pitches each, totaling just nine in the inning.

Kittredge did just that, sending down designated hitter Austin Hays, second baseman Gavin Lux, and catcher Tyler Stephenson in the frame. Coming off a rough outing against the Reds on Tuesday, where he allowed 4 earned runs in 1/3 of an inning and was charged with the loss, he bounced back in the best possible way.

“That was great,” Kittredge told MLB.com’s Ryan Herrera after the game. “You always want to just get back out there as quick as you can. I really appreciate that from [Cubs manager Craig Counsell], just having faith in me to put me back in that situation. Just good to get back out there, just so you don’t have to stew on it too long.”

As the Cubs look to make a playoff push, they acquired Kittredge at the trade deadline from the Baltimore Orioles, and since his arrival, he’s made four appearances, working 3 1/3 innings and allowing 4 hits, 4 earned runs, and a walk with 6 strikeouts.

After recording an 11-12 record with a 5.49 career ERA over two seasons with the Huskies, Kittredge has carved out a solid MLB career for himself. The 2021 All-Star has played for four teams over nine seasons and boasts a 25-15 record and 3.52 ERA across 320 innings pitched.

Kittredge joined Cal Quantril of the Miami Marlins and Brandon Young of the Orioles, who tossed the other two immaculate innings of the 2025 season. It’s also the sixth immaculate inning in Cubs history, and No. 120 in MLB history.
