Garcia made another rehab start and was great tossing 4 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts. He was relieved by Knorr who allowed 4 runs in the 5th inning. The offense got on the board in the 7th on a Matthews hit by pitch and Whitcomb 2 run single. That was it from the offense though as they fell 5-3.
Note: Matthews has a .886 OPS in Triple-A.
The Hooks got on the board in the first inning on a Spence 3 run HR. In the 2nd inning they scored 2 runs on a Sacco RBI single and Martinez RBI double. Bush added a solo HR in the third. Mayer got the start for the Hooks and pitched well striking out 8 over 4 innings while allowing 1 run. Williams added a sac fly in the 5th to extend the lead. Tredwell made his Double-A debut and tossed 3 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. The rest of the pen closed it out with 2 scoreless innings as the Hooks won 7-1.
Note: Spence has a 1.600 OPS in Double-A.
Asheville got on the board in the first inning scoring 2 runs on a Villarroel 2 run HR. In the 3rd, Janek added a solo HR. Rodriguez got the start and went 4 innings allowing 4 runs, 3 earned. The offense took the lead in the 5th scoring 2 runs on a Janek 2 run single. Almonte allowed 3 runs in relief as the Grasshoppers retook the lead. The offense went down in order in the 9th as Asheville fell 7-5.
Note: Janek has 7 HR over his last 25 games.
The Woodpeckers got on the board in the 3rd inning on a Powell RBI single. Rodriguez got the start and went 3.2 innings allowing 3 runs. The offense got another run in the 5th on a Frey sac fly. The bullpen allowed 4 runs and the offense was quiet the rest of the way as the Woodpeckers fell 7-2.
