The Cubs have signed outfielder Forrest Wall to a minor league deal. He joins Triple-A Iowa.

The Iowa Cubs cast out the St. Paul Saints (Twins), 10-5.

Jameson Taillon made a rehab start for Iowa tonight and he looked good. Taillon threw 78 pitches and went 4.2 innings. He allowed one run on three hits. Two of the hits were back-to-back hard-hit doubles. The other one was a 29 mph infield dribbler. Taillon struck out six and walked no one, although he did hit one batter.

Will Sanders went the rest of the way and was awarded the win because Taillon didn’t go five. Sanders’ final line was four runs, three earned, on three hits over 4.1 innings. Sanders walked two, hit one batter and struck out four.

DH Carlos Pérez hit his team-leading 21st home run with the bases empty in the sixth inning. Pérez went 2 for 4 with a walk. He scored twice.

Right fielder Owen Caissie returned to the starting lineup and went 3 for 6. He scored one run and drove home two.

First baseman Jonathon Long was 2 for 5 with a two-run double.

Center fielder Kevin Alcántara was 2 for 4 with a walk and an RBI double. He scored one run.

Second baseman James Triantos was 2 for 4 with a walk. He scored once and drove in one run.

Left fielder Darius Hill went 2 for 4 with a bases-loaded walk. Hill had two total RBI and scored once.

The Knoxville Smokies split a doubleheader with the Biloxi Shuckers (Brewers), winning the continuation of yesterday’s game 2-0 and losing the regularly-scheduled seven-inning game 2-1.

Antonio Santos threw five innings yesterday before the rains came and gave up just one hit. He struck out four, walked one and hit one batter.

A.J. Puckett pitched the next two innings. He allowed two hits. Puckett walked one and struck out one.

Frankie Scalzo Jr. threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning and got the win. Scalzo only base runner was a two-out walk. Scalzo struck out one.

Brad Deppermann pitched the ninth and collected the save. He allowed a hit and a walk. Deppermann struck out two.

Both runs in this game came on a two-run single in the eighth inning by DH Brent Bateman. Bateman was 1 for 3 with a walk.

Center fielder Jaylen Palmer was 2 for 3 and scored a run.

Walker Powell started game two and surrendered just a run on five hits over four innings. Powell struck out three and walked no one.

Evan Taylor tossed the other three innings. He got the loss after one run on two hits and a walk. Taylor struck out one.

DH Corey Joyce had an RBI single in the first inning for the only Smokies run of the game. Joyce went 1 for 1 and was hit by a pitch. He stayed in the game after that, but was pulled for a pinch hitter the next time he came to the plate.

The South Bend Cubs baked the Ft. Wayne TinCaps (Padres), 8-5.

Brooks Caple started and allowed two runs on five hits. One of the two runs was unearned. Caple struck out five and walked one.

Kenyi Perez got the win in relief. Perez kept the TinCaps scoreless over 1.1 innings. He gave up two hits, walked one and struck out two.

DH Ariel Armas walked in the second inning, extending his streak of reaching base to 12-straight plate appearances. He struck out in the fifth to end the streak, but he finished the night going 2 for 4 with two RBI and a walk.

Center fielder Leonel Espinoza was 2 for 4 with a walk. He scored three runs and drove in two.

Left fielder Edgar Alvarez went 2 for 5 with a three-run single.

Shortstop Cristian Hernandez was 2 for 4 with a stolen base and a sacrifice fly.

Right fielder Rafael Morel was 2 for 4. He had one RBI.

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans vetoed the Fredericksburg Nationals, 9-7.

Starter Jostin Florentino gave up two runs on two hits over 5.2 innings. He walked two and struck out seven. He also hit a batter.

Yoendris Gonzalez pitched the next 1.1 innings without allowing a run and got the win. Gonzalez gave up one hit. He walked no one, hit one batter and struck out three.

Matthew Peters stranded two runners in the eighth and gave up a run in the ninth. That was good enough for the save. Peters’ final line was one run on two hits over 1.1 innings. He struck out two and walked no one.

The Pelicans blew this game open with an eight-run sixth inning. Center fielder Alexey Lumpuy hit a two-run home run in the sixth, his eighth home run on the season. Lumpuy went 1 for 3 and was hit by a pitch.

Second baseman Ty Southisene hit a two-run single in the sixth inning. Southisene went 2 for 4 with a walk. He scored one run.

First baseman Matt Halbach was 2 for 3 with a sacrifice fly. He scored one run.

Right fielder Kane Kepley was 1 for 3 and was hit by a pitch twice. Kepley also stole two bases, including a straight steal of home in the sixth.
