In his latest start for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Paul Skenes rebounded with a quality outing on Thursday.
The right-handed pitcher recorded a quality start in the opener of a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds. Skenes threw six scoreless innings and picked up eight strikeouts. Opposing starter Brady Singer took the loss, giving up four runs over 3.2 innings.

The Pirates won 7-0 thanks to two hits apiece from Bryan Reynolds, Jared Triol,o and Henry Davis. Reynolds and David hit home runs while Triolo batted in two runs in with a single in the first inning.
Skenes’ ERA dropped to 1.94, which leads the National League. His 0.93 WHIP and 144 innings pitched both rank second, while his 162 strikeouts are tied for third.
Skenes’ next start will likely come next week in the finale of a three-game series at the Milwaukee Brewers or in the weekend series opener at the Chicago Cubs.
