The Los Angeles Dodgers did not have the blockbuster trade deadline they were expected to have. The Dodgers typically land some of the biggest names on the market, but this season they only added MLB talent in reliever Brock Stewart and outfielder Alex Call.
Los Angeles has stated they are content with their current roster and believe their best baseball has yet to come. Therefore, the front office did not feel desperate to make any big trades.

Dodgers general manager Andrew Friedman spoke about the franchise’s quiet deadline on AM 570 LA Sports. He said the team’s current struggles at the plate could not be solved at the trade deadline.
“We value decision making, getting a good pitch to hit, grinding the pitcher. I think that’s the DNA of this offense and what we’ve been over the years,” Friedman said. “Obviously, since late June, our offense hasn’t performed at a level we expected. And I think some of that is we’re striking out more. We’re not working the same quality of at-bats. They are things a trade deadline wasn’t going to help us address.”
Since June 15, the Dodgers have collectively posted a 23.8 strikeout percentage, which is fifth-highest strikeout percentage in MLB and the second-highest in the National League. Only the Colorado Rockies, who have the lowest winning percentage in MLB, have a higher strikeout percentage in the NL than the Dodgers.

Many people urged the Dodgers to replace outfielder Michael Conforto at the deadline with another batter. Conforto is averaging .188 in 101 games this season.
Call is the only new hitter Los Angeles acquired at the deadline. So far, the former Washington Nationals outfielder has gone 2-for-7 and drawn one walk in four games with the Dodgers.
Despite the Dodgers’ recent offensive struggles, Los Angeles still leads the NL West by five games. The Dodgers also rank second in the NL and have the third-highest winning percentage in MLB.
But Los Angeles will need to work through these batting issues to keep their top spot in the division.
