Diamondbacks’ Blaze Alexander talks about his hitting and what he overcame to get his confidence back and get back to the major leagues.
The Diamondbacks recalled another of the prospects they acquired ahead of last month’s trade deadline, bringing up right-hander Juan Burgos from Triple-A Reno.
To make room, right-hander Casey Kelly was optioned to Reno.
Burgos, 25, was sent to the Diamondbacks as part of the Eugenio Suarez trade with the Seattle Mariners. He made his major league debut earlier this season, making four appearances with the Mariners and logging 6 2/3 innings with three runs allowed. He struck out eight and walked two.
Burgos made three appearances with Reno following the trade, logging a 5.40 ERA (two runs in 3 1/3 innings).
He used primarily a four-pitch mix during his time in the big leagues this season, averaging 95.9 mph with his sinker while also throwing a cutter, sweeper and curveball. He also used a change-up, albeit sparingly.

At Chase Field: Rodriguez gave up two runs in five innings against the Athletics last weekend in Sacramento. … Left-handed hitters have pummeled Rodriguez this year, hitting .364 with a .978 OPS. … He has not faced the Rockies this year, but he saw them twice last year, logging a 3.97 ERA in 11 1/3 innings. … Blalock turned in three consecutive strong starts in July but was hit hard last time out, giving up seven runs in 5 2/3 innings against the Pirates. … He averages 94.5 mph with his fastball and also mixes in a steady dose of splitters, sliders, curveballs and cutters. … He faced the Diamondbacks once last season, giving up three runs in 5 2/3 innings.
