The Kansas City Chiefs wasted no time producing their first highlight reel play of the preseason against the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday night.
After Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker booted the ball downfield to start the game, second-year defensive back Chris Roland-Wallace forced a fumble against Cardinals returner Greg Dortch. One of Kansas City’s rookies, dynamic running back Brashard Smith, recovered the ball, which set up the Chiefs’ offense in Arizona territory early.

Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes would throw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Jason Brownlee on Kansas City’s first drive, which gave the Chiefs their first lead of the game.

While Roland-Wallace and Smith were expected to make their presence felt as members of the Chiefs’ defense and offense, respectively, neither could have predicted that their outstanding attention to detail on special teams would be what made the most difference early in the game.
