PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks walked off the Colorado Rockies for a back-and-forth 6-5 victory in front of a lively crowd on Saturday night, as Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit the game-winning double.
Geraldo Perdomo went the opposite way for a double off Rockies reliever Jimmy Herget with one out in the ninth inning, setting the table for Gurriel.
Herget got ahead 1-2, but he left a curveball right over the middle that Gurriel hammered to deep left field for his third RBI of the game.
“Only trying to get the ball out of the infield, and thankfully I was able to execute,” Gurriel said via Spanish interpreter.

Saturday was the fourth walk-off win for the Diamondbacks this season, the second capped off by Gurriel. Arizona secured a series victory in front of a crowd of more than 38,000 — most of whom received a Corbin Carroll Star Wars Night bobblehead.
Timely hits, 3.2 scoreless innings from the bullpen and a stout defensive effort all game led to the win.
Carroll, Ketel Marte, Perdomo and Gurriel combined for eight hits, five RBIs and five runs scored on Saturday, a productive night for the top of the order.
“That was a lot of fun,” Carroll said. “Having a crowd like that, just the atmosphere, it was a fun game.”
“That was a pretty clean game,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “We made just a couple mistakes, and when you do that, little things show up and they all matter and you end up winning a close game like that.”
Arizona went ahead 1-0 in the first inning on a Gurriel single to left off Rockies starter Bradley Blalock after singles from Marte and Perdomo. Marte and Perdomo took an extra 90 feet with aggressive baserunning on Perdomo’s knock, but a hard tag left Perdomo a bit light-headed momentarily, which led to a delay. When play resumed, Gurriel attacked the first pitch to get on the board.
Perdomo staying in the game was monumental, as he reached base four times with three hits and a walk.
The Diamondbacks fell behind by as much as 4-1, as the Rockies took the lead on a two-run shot from Brenton Doyle off Eduardo Rodriguez in the second. Rodriguez finished with 5.1 innings and five earned runs on six hits and five walks.
The D-backs, however, came back quickly with two runs in the third and a game-tying solo blast from Carroll in the fifth, his 25th of the season to match a career high. Four batters later, Adrian Del Castillo put the D-backs ahead with a double to left field, snapping an 0-for-14 skid for him.
Juan Burgos makes Diamondbacks debut
The D-backs recalled pitching prospect Juan Burgos, who was acquired in the Eugenio Suarez trade from Seattle, pregame. With a runner aboard in the sixth, the D-backs called his number.
Burgos walked the first batter he faced and allowed an RBI single that bounced up the middle. From there, he dialed in with back-to-back strikeouts to strand two runners and maintain the tie at 5-5. On 10 swings, he drew five whiffs, striking out Colorado’s dangerous hitters in All-Star Hunter Goodman and Jordan Beck.
“ I think there might have been a little case of anxiousness, all to be expected,” Lovullo said. “I like the two-seam fastball, I like the presence on the mound and the confidence. … I think he was in a good spot, took a couple deep breaths and went out there and made pitches.”
Kyle Backhus, Andrew Saalfrank and Andrew Hoffmann each threw a scoreless inning with 10 pitches or fewer. Saalfrank and Hoffmann induced inning-ending doubles plays, the latter of which was started by a slick jump throw from Perdomo.
There were several standout defensive moments on Saturday, the loudest being a Gurriel diving catch in the gap during the fifth inning.
“When it left the bat, I thought it was gonna be a double,” Lovullo said.
“The best part was what it meant for the game,” Gurriel said.
