Landon Silinsky gives his preview, prediction and pick for Sunday’s game between the Rangers and Phillies.

The Rangers and Phillies are facing off in Texas on Sunday. Below, I break down my prediction and pick for the game.

Patrick Corbin will be starting for the Rangers, while Zack Wheeler will take the mound for the Phillies .

Rangers vs. Phillies prediction, preview

After a few tough seasons as one of baseball’s least effective starters, Corbin has quietly turned things around in 2025. He’s held his own with a 3.91 ERA and 1.31 WHIP over 112.2 innings, highlighted by a strong July where he went 2–0 with a 2.30 ERA across five starts. August, however, has been less kind—Corbin was chased after just three innings in his last outing against the Yankees, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks. He’ll look to bounce back against the NL East–leading Phillies.

Wheeler has been his usual dominant self for the Phillies this season, posting a 2.64 ERA, a 0.92 WHIP (second-best in MLB), and 182 strikeouts (third in MLB) over 139.2 innings. He was originally slated to start earlier in the week, but his outing was pushed back a few days due to shoulder soreness—something worth keeping an eye on moving forward.

Rangers vs. Phillies pick, best bet

The Phillies are riding high, having taken the first two games from the Rangers and now holding a 4.5-game lead over the slumping Mets atop the NL East. As usual, Kyle Schwarber has been right in the middle of the surge—he’s hitting .288 with eight home runs and 20 RBIs over his last 15 games, providing a major spark in the heart of the lineup.

Texas has struggled offensively all season, and now they’re up against one of the premier arms in the game in Wheeler. It’s hard to expect much run production from them on Sunday. As for the Phillies, while Patrick Corbin is certainly a hittable matchup on paper, it’s not a given that they’ll generate enough offense on their own to push this game over the total.

I like the under here.

Best Bet: Under 8 runs (-116)
