Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 8, Rochester Red Wings (WAS) 7

It was a back-and-forth game in Norfolk, where the Tides were aided in great part by the defense of the Red Wings. Just two of the eight runs the Tides scored were earned runs thanks to three errors by Rochester’s defense. The Tides’ big inning was their four-run sixth inning, in which they came back to tie the game 6-6.

TT Bowens started the party with a home run. Then after a walk and a single, Silas Ardoin knocked in both runners with a single combined with an error by rehabbing major leaguer Dylan Crews. Ardoin landed on third thanks to the error, where he came in to score on a Reed Trimble single.

Dylan Beavers went 1-for-5. Samuel Basallo did not play.

Starting pitcher Thaddeus Ward gave up four runs in four innings, though just one run was earned due to an error by José Barrero. Elvin Rodríguez allowed three runs in two innings but also got the win because pitcher wins are dumb.

Double-A: Akron RubberDucks (CLE) 5, Chesapeake Baysox 1

The Baysox had just four hits in this game, two of which came in the fourth inning. Max Wagner and Aron Estrada singled back-to-back, then Adam Retzbach knocked in Wagner with a sac fly. The other two hits were singles by Retzbach and Brian Butterworth.

Alex Pham started for the Baysox and gave up two runs in four innings. Levi Wells followed in relief. He pitched three innings with three runs. He walked three, which is bad, but struck out eight.

High-A: Aberdeen IronBirds 8, Wilmington Blue Rocks (WAS) 0

This was a great game all around for the IronBirds. Starting pitcher Luis De León pitched six innings, a season high. He didn’t allow a run on three hits, and he struck out 12 batters. A trio of relievers added six more strikeouts for a team total of 18.

The offense racked up 12 hits and four walks. Leadoff batter Vance Honeycutt had three hits and is 8-for-18 since returning from the injured list on August 5th. Maikol Hernández and Victor Figueroa both went 2-for-4 with a double each, while Thomas Sosa slugged a three-run homer as part of his two-hit day. Griff O’Ferrall rounded out the two-hit club.

Low-A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (HOU) 3, Delmarva Shorebirds 2

This game was tied 1-1 going into the ninth. The Woodpeckers scored two in the top half and the Shorebirds scored one but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Keeler Morfe started and allowed just one hit in 3.1 innings. Chase Allsup piggybacked with a four-inning stint and allowed the Woodpeckers’ first run in the fifth inning. Allsup allowed a single, a stolen base, and made a throwing error that led to a run-scoring fielder’s choice.

The Shorebirds scored in the bottom of the first when Nate George tripled and scored on a single from Cobb Hightower. Hightower had two hits in the game. The Shorebirds had just five hits in the game, the other two came from Luis Almeyda and Joshua Liranzo.
