Brendan O’Sullivan provides his prediction and best bet for Monday’s New York Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins matchup.
The Yankees are a mess despite being buyers at the trade deadline. The possibility of missing the playoffs is becoming more and more real as the season progresses.
They begin their series against the Twins on Monday, Aug. 11 at home.
New York is a -172 moneyline favorite, and Minnesota is +141 on DraftKings Sportsbook. The game total is set at over/under 8.5 runs.
Here’s my prediction and pick for Monday’s Yankees vs. Twins matchup.
Yankees vs. Twins prediction
No lead is safe in a Yankees game. The front office added multiple quality arms to bolster the bullpen for a postseason run, but it’s backfired. The team can’t hold a lead, so it’s nerve-racking for Yankees fans to watch the later innings.
Will Warren is starting for New York. He’s shown some promise, but even a good start from Warren could be ruined if the bullpen can’t stay intact. Additionally, the Twins have been great offensively, scoring at least five runs in four of their last five games and nine in two of those outings.
If that trend continues, it’ll be even more difficult for the Yankees to get back on track. Their offense has fluctuated lately, with some high-scoring games and some low-scoring ones.
The Twins are starting Zebby Matthews, who has a 5.17 ERA through 38.1 innings. He’s also been up and down in his recent outings. He’s allowed one, five, zero and five earned runs in his past four games.
Yankees vs. Twins pick, best bet
If there was a blown save option, that would be the play. It’s funny but also too common with the Yankees lately.
You’re better off staying away from Yankees bets, so take the Twins’ moneyline at +141 odds. It’s great value considering how each side has been playing lately.
