Brendan O’Sullivan provides his prediction and best bet for Monday’s Milwaukee Brewers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates matchup.
The Brewers are on fire, having won nine straight and 12 of their last 13 games. They’ll begin a lengthy NL Central stretch against the Pirates before facing the Reds and Cubs.
Milwaukee has the top record in the majors and is understandably favored against the lowly Pirates. The Brewers are -220 on the moneyline, while the Pirates are +178 on DraftKings Sportsbook. The game total is set at over/under eight runs.
Here’s my prediction and pick for Monday’s Brewers vs. Pirates matchup.
Brewers vs. Pirates prediction
Not only is this a lopsided matchup based on records, but the Brewers also have a pitching advantage. Jose Quintana is on the mound for the series opener.
Quintana has a 3.57 ERA through 93.1 innings. He typically allows a couple runs per game, so the Brewers’ offense will need to step up. That shouldn’t be an issue as the team scored seven in back-to-back games and at least five in four of the last five.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are starting Andrew Heaney, who has a 4.77 ERA. He’s had his solid starts, but he typically allows a lot of hits and runs in a short span. Heaney hasn’t pitched more than five innings since June 30.
Pittsburgh’s bullpen will likely need to pitch at least three innings, which could be difficult since the team used five relievers on Sunday.
Brewers vs. Pirates pick, best bet
Even though Quintana has been good, he’s not perfect. He’ll allow a couple runs, which is enough to help aid the over at eight runs.
The Brewers will score the majority against Heaney as they look to continue their win streak.
Best Bets: Over eight runs (-105)
