The Yankees came into Seattle and took the first game of the series on Monday with an 11-5 win. Clarke Schmidt picked up his first win of the season after allowing three earned runs on three hits with six strikeouts over six innings. Four pitchers ended the game, with only Tim Hill allowing earned runs with two. Ian Hamilton led the relievers with two strikeouts in the ninth inning.

Several New York players had great ball games, including Austin Wells. Wells went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and two more RBIs on a sacrifice fly. Anthony Volpe had a homer with two RBIs, while Trent Grisham blasted two home runs with two runs and two RBIs on a 3-for-6 night at the plate.

Max Fried will take the mound for New York in the second game of this series on the road. The left-hander is undefeated this season with a 6-0 record and a 1.05 ERA. He has 47 strikeouts through 51.2 innings pitched. Fried ranks No. 1 in MLB in wins and lowest ERA. He allowed his first run in four starts in his last game against the San Diego Padres.
