San Diego Padres star shortstop Xander Bogaerts took part in just his second series against his former team, the Boston Red Sox, since departing after the 2022 season this weekend. And both he, and former Boston Red Sox play-by-play broadcaster turned San Diego Padres voice Don Orsillo reminded Red Sox fans what they are missing throughout the series.

Coming into the series, Bogaerts had been held hitless against his former team. But that came to an end in the second game of the series on Saturday, hitting a home run in the second inning off of Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito.

As Orsillo has done countless times both with the Red Sox and Padres organizations, he gave his patented “Bogey goes boom” call as the ball went over the fence in left field.

After Saturday’s game, Bogaerts was asked by Bri Savant of Fox 5 in San Diego how it felt to have Orsillo on the call of his hit and home run against his former team, with Bogaerts explaining how Orsillo has been present for the vast majority of great moments throughout his career.

“I’ll hear it when I get home,” said Bogaerts. “I wasn’t able to hear that yet. What can I say? I have a lot of memories. And also, with Don, my first couple years in the big leagues, Don was there. It’s a very new team. But it’s still the Red Sox. It’s a lot of new young guys. It’s always a place that is close to your heart. I had a lot of great times. Great people over there, great friendships. So it was nice.”

I asked #Padres Xander Bogaerts about homering against his old Red Sox with Don Orsillo on the call

Orsillo saw this post from Savant on social media, sharing his love for Bogaerts and explaining how he is “so glad” to be spending his own second chapter as a broadcast with Bogaerts in San Diego.

“I love you Bogey!” wrote Orsillo. “So glad we are together for both of our 2nd chapters and can’t wait to win another ring together.”

I ❤️ you Bogey! So glad we are together for both of our 2nd chapters and can’t wait to win another ring together. @Padres #ForTheFaithful @RedSox pic.twitter.com/HvjTbLPxeM

Orsillo and Bogaerts ultimately got the last laugh over their former organization, winning two of the three games against the Red Sox. But clearly, based on the fact that Orsillo is talking about he and Bogaerts winning a second ring together in San Diego, there is obviously more work to be done for Bogaerts.
