CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz has accomplished a feat that no other player in Major League Baseball history had done in the “Modern Era.”
The “Modern Era,” is considered to have begun in 1901when the American League and National League became the two major leagues, and the World Series was established beginning in 1903.
De La Cruz became the first player in “Modern Era” history to record at least 115 extra-base hits and 115 stolen bases in his first 300 games (through May 11). He has 117 extra-base hits (56 doubles, 17 triples and 44 homers) and 116 stolen bases (in 144 attempts).
De La Cruz has a slash line in that span of .249/.324/.438 with 416 strikeouts in 1,307 plate appearances.
