Rain leaks through roof at American Family Field during Brewers-Mets game
Severe weather leads to flooding in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Aug. 9, leading to leaking in the roof at American Family Field during the Brewers-Mets game.
Add the rare double-double to the Milwaukee Brewers list of achievements so far in 2025.
By virtue of their 7-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at American Family Field on Monday night, Aug. 11, the Brewers extended their winning streak to 10 and counting – the second time this season they’ve reached double-digit wins in a row.
Milwaukee becomes the first team since the 2019 Houston Astros to accomplish the feat, and the first National League team to do it since the 2017 Los Angeles Dodgers (10 games and 11 games).
The Brewers won 11 straight from July 6-21, and also won eight straight from May 25-June 2.
Bottom line?
They’re now 74-44 – a full 30 games over .500 – and 6 1/2 games ahead of the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central, the inverse of where the two teams stood as recently as June 18.
They’ve also won 13 of their last 14 and 25 of 29.
Christian Yelich and Brice Turang each homered, every starter reached base at least once and all but Caleb Durbin (who twice was hit by pitches) collected at least one hit. Starter José Quintana also recorded his second straight quality start, allowing a lone run over six innings.
There was also a bit of news before the game, as leftfielder Isaac Collins was named the National League’s player of the week, the day after slugging a walk-off homer to beat the New York Mets.
Milwaukee keeps tacking on
Already taking his third at-bat of the game in the fourth inning, Collins pulled a double down the left-field line and he moved to third on a single to center by William Contreras.
After a comebacker by Yelich, Andrew Vaughn hit a roller to the right side that plated Collins to up Milwaukee’s lead to 6-1.
Then in the sixth, Collins yanked a triple into the right-field corner and scored a batter later on a Contreras single.
Quintana ended up posting his second straight quality start, allowing three hits, a run and a walk with three strikeouts over six innings and 89 pitches.
Yelich home run starts Brewers’ offensive onslaught in the third
With one out in the second, Yelich homered to center – his 22nd of the season and first since Aug. 2 – to kick-start a four-run frame.
Vaughn followed with a single, then Durbin advanced him to second on a groundout.
A Sal Frelick single into right field drove in Vaughn to make it 3-1, then a Brandon Lockridge single to right field brought Frelick home.
Two batters later, Lockridge scored an unearned run on a Joey Bart throwing error as Joey Ortiz stole second.
Joey Bart’s home run ties it up for Pittsburgh
On a 2-1 pitch, Bart snuck a 356-foot line drive inside the right field foul post for a home run to tie the game up.Â
That play was followed up by a single to left by Jared Triolo, with Collins bobbling the ball and the miscue allowing Triolo to advance to second.
A failed pickoff attempt by Quintana at second allowed Triolo to advance to third before Pittsburgh ultimately left him stranded with the game tied 1-1.
Brice Turang leadoff homer gives Brewers early lead
After Quintana tossed a 1-2-3 top of the first, leadoff batter Turang gave Milwaukee the lead by cranking an Andrew Heaney sinker down the middle of the plate for a 406-foot home run to left-center field.Â
It was the first leadoff home run of Turang’s career and his 11th overall for the season.
Later in the inning, Frelick popped out to first base with bases loaded, leaving Milwaukee to settle for a 1-0 lead.
