The Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners share a close relationship. During the baseball season, several Seahawk players and icons – both past and present – are featured before Mariners games to throw the ceremonial first pitch. Other times it is a Seattle-area celebrity or person of importance who receives such an honor.

Sometimes it’s both!

On Monday night, the Mariners were hosting the New York Yankees for the first in a three-game series against the reigning American League champions. The man slated to throw the first pitch was comedian Adam Ray. The Seattle native, and mega fan, Ray is often seen interacting with the Seahawks and Mariners, and Monday night was no different. Ray went up to throw the first pitch… but somehow injured his arm. With his “injury” being so severe, Ray simply could not go on, and needed the Mariners to make a call to the bullpen…

…where Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald was waiting in relief!

This is not the first interaction between Adam Ray and Mike Macdonald, or even the first interaction between these two men involving the Mariners! Earlier in February, Macdonald was seen hanging with Ray and fellow comedian Shane Gillis during a show in Seattle. Star catcher Cal Raleigh was also seen with them as well!

Anytime there’s any connection between the Seahawks and Mariners feels almost like an old crossover television episode. With these teams obviously playing at different times of the year, there aren’t a ton of opportunities like this. So when they happen, it’s pretty special for the Seattle faithful.
