In the middle of his August tear, JJ Wetherholt is receiving recognition for his production from last month. On Monday, Wetherhlolt was named the St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Player of the Month for July.
In just July, Wetherholt slashed .306/.395/.708 while hitting seven home runs, recording 16 RBI, scoring 18 runs, totaling 14 extra-base hits and waling 10 times in 19 games played across both Double-A in Springfield and Triple-A in Memphis.

Wetherholt was promoted from Springfield to Memphis following his first multi-homer game and being named to the National League roster for the MLB All-Star Futures Game, where Wetherholt went 1-for-4 with a double that led off the game.
Wetherholt also had a four- hit game on July 18.
Overall during the 2025 MiLB season, Wetheholt has a .299 average with 13 home runs and 47 RBI in 83 games.
The St. Louis Cardinals selected Wetherholt with the seventh overall pick in 2024, the highest selection in WVU baseball history. He helped the Mountaineers to an NCAA Super Regional appearance during his final season, setting a series of program records at the plate after breaking out during the 2023 campaign.
Wetherholt began the 2025 season in Double-A and recorded seven home runs, 34 RBI, 44 walks and 14 stolen bases before moving up to Triple-A. He helped the Cardinals’ Single-A affiliate win the Florida State League championship in 2024, logging the game-winning hit.
