Several Oakland County baseball players announced their commitments this week to Western Michigan and head coach Billy Gernon.
The Broncos received pledges for its Class of 2026 from Brother Rice IF Tristan Turner and Clarkston IF/RHP Chris York, both per their Twitter accounts on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-2 York finished his junior campaign strong, going the distance while allowing just three hits, one walk and no earned runs with nine strikeouts in the Wolves’ district loss to Grand Blanc. He conceded just four earned runs over 14 IP in his three appearances leading up to that playoff start.
Turner emerged as one of Brother Rice’s best bats this spring. His 40 RBIs tied the team lead with Cole Van Ameyde, and his .410 batting average ranked ranked second just behind Maksim Neshov. He finished the year with three home runs, nine doubles and 18 stolen bases.
The pair will add to its array of area locals that includes Class of 2025 signees Trevor Marshall, a left-handed pitcher from Troy High, and middle infielder Mason Pilarski of Warren De La Salle.
Girls hoopers find landing spots, pick up offers
AAU season saw several girls basketball standouts from last winter being rewarded for their efforts.
Stoney Creek 2026 F Izzy Ivezaj committed over the weekend to Northern Michigan. The 6-foot-2 forward, who plays with Michigan Mystics, will provide the Cougars with more rim protection before she does the same going forward for the Bobcats.
Lakeland’s Aubrin Miller also announced her commitment on Saturday, opting for Adrian College. The 5-foot-8 guard was a focal point and a clutch player as a junior for the Eagles, helping lead them to a LVC regular season title. Miller, who plays with the Michigan Mystics, scored a team-high 22 points in the team’s district defeat to West Bloomfield and earned her share of postseason accolades.

In regards to offers, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 2026 G/F Brooke Shockey, who plays AAU with Michigan Storm, collected her first at the end of June from Schoolcraft College. Since then, the 6-footer has added ones from Madonna, Lawrence Tech, and most recently Albion.
From the Class of ’27, West Bloomfield PG Harlem Simpson announced she was offered by Central Michigan late last week. Detroit Mercy was one of the first to offer Simpson after the conclusion of the Lakers’ season, and since then she’s also picked up ones from DePaul, Penn State, and Illinois-Chicago, among others.
Hoopers on the move
Several top underclassman on the radar of Power 5 teams will be plying their trade elsewhere when this winter rolls around.
That includes Mateen Cleaves Jr., who seemed destined for a bigger role at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s as a sophomore with the graduation of Trey McKenney, Sharrod Barnes and Isaiah Hines.
But the Class of 2028 guard, who was playing up several age groups with The Family during EYBL action this summer, is going to be playing for Dream City Christian in Arizona instead this season. That’s because his dad, Mateen Sr., was hired into player development in mid-July by Pheonix Suns owner Mat Ishbia, his teammate at Michigan State.
That didn’t stop Cleaves Jr. from picking up an offer from Tom Izzo and Michigan State this week.
Another guard on St. Mary’s bench from this past season, Peyton Kemp, looked set to suit up for Ferndale after a summer that saw him collect offers from Florida State, Detroit Mercy, Xavier, and others. However, Kemp announced on July 31 that he’ll be attending La Lumiere School in Indiana as a junior. Other former players from the prep school current Detroit Pistons Isaiah Stewart and Jaden Ivey, as well as Jaren Jackson Jr. and Jeremy Fears.
