Tigers’ Jack Flaherty makes NSFW comments amid ‘frustrating’ season originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Detroit Tigers have been struggling a bit as of late, going 5-6 in August. Amid their struggles, the Cleveland Guardians have shrunk the AL Central lead to just 5.5 games for Detroit.

It’s not just one player struggling for the Tigers; one player has struggled a bit more than usual this season, and he’s very aware of his struggles.
As Evan Petzold of The Detroit Free Press shared, Jack Flaherty gave a very blunt and NSFW comment on his recent struggles.
“It’s kind of frickin’ hard at this point to chalk (expletive) up to bad luck,” Flaherty said. “I mean, call it what you want. You execute pitches and balls fall in, you can say (expletive) is bad luck, but it’s frustrating at this point.”
His frustrations came after his latest outing, where he allowed five earned runs on eight hits and one walk, while striking out six in 4.1 innings pitched to the Chicago White Sox. It was his 12th loss of the year, and the second-straight outing allowing five earned runs.

In the year, Flaherty has a 4.76 ERA, a 6-12 record, 153 strikeouts, and a 1.31 WHIP, 20 home runs, and 114 hits in 124.2 innings pitched in 24 starts.
Compared to a year ago, when he had a 3.17 ERA between the Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers, this season has been a frustrating and disappointing one for Flaherty and the Tigers.

He’s not the sole reason for the Tigers’ struggles this season as of late, but he’s been one of the team’s worst pitchers, and it’s been frustrating for him. He’s had solid outings, including back-to-back quality starts against the Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays, two of the top playoff teams.

But, against the White Sox and Minnesota Twins, he allowed five runs in 4.1 and 4.2 innings, respectively. His struggles to find consistency this season have been an issue for Detroit, and combined with the rest of the rotation struggling, the team’s recent slide isn’t surprising.
It’s been a frustrating season for Flaherty, and while he doesn’t blame it on bad luck, some good luck could help him get right amid a rough year for the Tigers veteran pitcher.
