Going into the 2025 Minnesota Twins season, there was optimism that the team could compete for a playoff spot and a lot of buzz around the fact that the Pohlad family had made it known that they were exploring selling the team.
For many Minnesota fans, this was exciting because, although the Twins have won two World Series Championships while being owned by the Pohlads, the most recent championship was in 1991, and they haven’t made it back since.
Perhaps it was time for new ownership that would invest more heavily in the roster and bring fresh energy to the ballpark.
The 2025 Twins have faced injury issues and were an overall disappointment when the 2025 MLB trade deadline approached. Then, they made headlines by executing a significant sell-off at the deadline, trading away 10 players in a dramatic roster overhaul.
They traded several notable players like Carlos Correa, Jhoan Duran, Griffin Jax, Harrison Bader, and Willi Castro. This allowed the Twins to shed salary and start rebuilding with the mix of prospects and established players now on the roster.
At the time, there was speculation by many, myself included, that they were shedding salary so that a new owner would be able to start fresh and start signing and developing players based on their vision for the team. That turned out to be inaccurate.
The Pohlad Family Provides An Update On The Minnesota Twins Sale
In a surprising news release issued on Wednesday, August 13, the Pohlad family provided an update on the potential sale of the team, and rather than introducing a new owner, they did just the opposite.

Twins Executive Chair Joe Pohlad issued a statement saying the family was no longer interested in selling the team. Instead, the family would remain the principal owners, and they would look to add limited partners to help shape the team moving forward.
Below is Joe Pohlad’s full statement:
For more than four decades, our family has had the privilege of owning the Minnesota Twins. This franchise has become part of our family story, as it has for our employees, our players, this community, and Twins fans everywhere.
Over the past several months, we explored a wide range of potential investment and ownership opportunities. Our focus throughout has been on what’s best for the long-term future of the Twins. We have been fully open to all possibilities.
After a detailed and robust process, our family will remain the principal owner of the Minnesota Twins. To strengthen the club in a rapidly evolving sports landscape – one that demands strong partnerships, fresh ideas, and long-term vision – we are in the process of adding two significant limited partnership groups, each of whom will bring a wealth of experience and share our family values.

We see and hear the passion from our partners, the community, and Twins fans. That passion inspires us. This ownership group is committed to building a winning team and culture for this region, one that Twins fans are proud to cheer for.
He went on to say the transactions are subject to approval by Major League Baseball, and additional details on the limited partnership groups would be available once the process is completed.
The response to this decision has been met with disappointment from many Twins fans on social media, who fear that with the Pohlads maintaining control, nothing would change, and there would be no end in sight to the Twins failing to compete on a championship level. Time will tell if this zebra can change its stripes.
