Former Northwest Mississippi Community College star James Smith IV, who played one season with Memphis baseball, was selected No. 433 overall by the New York Mets in the 14th round of the 2025 MLB Draft on July 14.

The 6-foot-5, 185-pound junior outfielder joined the Tigers as a transfer from Northwest Mississippi College, where he spent two seasons. Smith began his college career at Ole Miss in the fall of 2022 but later transferred to Northwest Mississippi in the spring of 2023.

He hit for .328 with six home runs, five doubles and had 16 RBIs in his final season at Northwest Mississippi College.

Smith, who is from Olive Branch, played high school baseball at Mississippi’s Northpoint Christian School.

Smith appeared in 25 games during the 2025 season for Memphis.
