Here are highlights from the Tigers’ 1-0 win on Wednesday at Rate Field in Chicago.
Tigers pitcher Troy Melton set the tone from the start and struck out the first batter he faced — White Sox designated hitter Kyle Teel — on a well-located fastball.
After giving up his first and lone hit of the game on a leadoff double in the fifth inning, Melton responded by striking out the next three White Sox hitters to thwart the scoring threat.
The three punch-outs in the fifth capped a one-hit, six-strikeout gem from Melton.
Tigers reliever Will Vest shut the door with a 1-2-3 ninth inning to complete the shutout and secure the series win.
