Beloved Yankees third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera went down with a truly horrific injury attempting to score on an Aaron Judge flyout in the ninth inning of the Yankees’ 11-5 win over the Mariners Monday.
Cabrera tagged on a fly ball and was about to score when his cleat seemingly dug into the dirt and his lower left leg inverted. Cabrera had to be taken off in an ambulance as a horrified Yankees dugout watched. Tests on Tuesday confirmed Cabrera has a fractured left ankle

With Cabrera being integral to the Yankees’ plans this season, the focus now has to turn to replacing his production.

St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado has been linked to the Yankees all year, but a recent report showed that the Cardinals have gotten no interest on Arenado after separate trades to the Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros fell through.
Even so, the Cardinals are on a nine-game winning streak and appear to be full-steam ahead as they look to vie with the Chicago Cubs for the NL Central crown.
One team that may not be full-steam ahead are the faltering Colorado Rockies, who have fallen short of painfully low expectations heading into 2025, and recently fired manager Bud Black after a 7-33 start.

Promising Rockies players that might be on the move are few and far between, but one that might be interesting is 2024 All-Star third baseman Ryan McMahon, who turned in his fourth consecutive season with 20+ home runs and put up a respectable 2.5 WAR along with 10 defensive runs saved at third.

The Yankees reportedly called the Rockies about McMahon prior to the 2024 trade deadline, and the Rockies declined a trade, listing McMahon’s desire to stay in Colorado after welcoming a daughter with his wife Natalie last February.
However, the Rockies, amid their atrocious start to 2025, could entertain calls on McMahon, who represents one of the only players teams could express interest in.

The Rockies are currently on pace to go 28-134, which would handily break the White Sox’ 2024 record-worst 41-121 finish.
