Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Jordan Lawlar will make his first appearance since 2023 on Tuesday in the second of three games at the San Francisco Giants.

He’ll bat eighth in the D-backs’ order and play shortstop on an off day for regular Geraldo Perdomo.

The move will bump Tim Tawa, who has mostly played second base, to center field for the first time. Tawa has also appeared for one game in left field.

Lawlar appeared in 14 games and started nine toward the end of the 2023 season, slashing .129/.206/.129 in his brief taste of MLB action. He played exclusively as a shortstop when he was in the lineup.

While some of Arizona’s best players line the infield on this 2025 team, the D-backs believe the 22-year-old Lawlar will have a chance to earn meaningful reps across positions, playing for Perdomo at shortstop, Ketel Marte at second base or Eugenio Suarez at third.

Lawlar battled injuries last season, keeping him from advancing toward a role on the MLB club.

Healthy and batting well with Triple-A Reno (.336) this season, Lawlar will get a shot to make an impact starting Tuesday against lefty Giants pitcher Robbie Ray.

Here’s what the D-backs’ lineup looks like at San Francisco with the recently called-up infielder in the eight-hole.
