Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 4, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Marlins) 1
Trey Gibson’s Triple-A debut was a smashing success. In his first taste of the level, the righty delivered five shutout innings in which he struck out six and only allowed one hit. Roansy Contreras was almost as good in relief. He finished up the final four innings and gave up one run on two hits and four strikeouts.
This was not a huge game for the top prospect duo of Samuel Basallo and Dylan Beavers. They combined to go 0-for-6 with two walks and four strikeouts. José Barrero smacked a two-run homer to make up for his three-strikeout game. Emmanuel Rivera added a pair or hits and drove in a run. Maverick Handley singled and had an RBI.
Double-A: Erie SeaWolves (Tigers) 8, Chesapeake Baysox 6
The Chesapeake offense was busy in this one, although it wasn’t enough to get the win. They collected 11 hits. Creed Willems led the way with two home runs, both of which were solo shots. Douglas Hodo added a long ball of his own. Enrique Bradfield Jr. had a pair of hits and two stolen bases. Max Wagner, Austin Overn, and Adam Retzbach each doubled once. Overn also stole a base. Brandon Butterworth singled, drove in a run, walked, and stole a base.
There was less good news on the mound. Zach Fruit started, but really struggled with control. Over 3.1 innings he issued eight walks and allowed four runs on those free passes plus two hits and two strikeouts. Gerald Ogando and Micah Ashman did well in the middle innings, keeping the SeaWolves off the board for their 3.2 combined innings. But Daniel Lloyd could not do the same in his two innings, where he gave up four runs on four hits, a walk, and no strikeouts.
High-A: Hudson Valley Renegades (Yankees) 1, Aberdeen IronBirds 0 – F/10
You cannot fault the Aberdeen pitching staff for losing this game. The four pitchers they used were all quite good. The only run they allowed was unearned because it was the extra innings, Manfred runner that scored. Wellington Aracena continued to look really impressive in the Orioles organization. He tossed five more scoreless frames and struck out five. He has now given up just one run across 13.2 innings since being acquired from the Mets. Ryan Cabarcas and Carter Baumler followed with two shutout innings apiece. And it was Zane Barnhart for the 10th inning, where he allowed walk-off win after retiring the first two hitters of the inning.
The struggles that the Aberdeen offense had are emblematic of how poor the 2024 draft class has been this year. Many of them are currently suiting up for the IronBirds, and it has mostly been bad news for them in 2025. The group managed just one hit and five walks. They went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left six runners on base. Their only hit was a Colin Tuft single. Tuft also stole two bases. Vance Honeycutt struck out three times, walked, and was caught stealing. Griff O’Ferrall was 0-for-3 with a walk. The recently-promoted Nate George was 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout, but he did steal two bases.
Low-A: Lynchburg Hillcats (Guardians) 8, Delmarva Shorebirds 3
Boston Bateman was back on the bump for his second start as an Orioles prospect. It went rather well. Over 4.1 innings he gave up one run on six hits, two walks, and five strikeouts. Adrián Delgado worked 1.2 scoreless frames directly after that. Then a rain delay came, and it seemed like the Shorebirds weren’t ready to play after that. Tanner Smith and Deivy Cruz combined to allow seven runs (six earned) over the final two innings. That put the game out of reach late.
Delmarva’s lineup was putting plenty of runners on base. They combined for 12 hits and two walks. But they went just 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Caden Bodine did not start the game, but ended up leading the team with three hits, including a double. Ike Irish, starting in right field, added a pair of hits and a walk. Wehiwa Aloy doubled and drove in a run. Cobb Hightower had two hits, two stolen bases, and a run scored. Braylin Tavera homered, walked, and scored twice.
