Kyle Karros had a short stint in Hartford, but he’s had a memorable first week in the major leagues.

The former Yard Goat and son of former big leaguer Eric Karros made his own MLB debut last week with the Colorado Rockies, and started his big-league career with a 1-for-3 night and an RBI single in a 6-1 loss to Arizona last Friday.

The 23-year-old third baseman hit .294 with four home runs and 21 RBI in 55 games with Hartford this season. He was promoted to Triple-A Albuquerque at the end of July, and after the Rockies traded former All-Star third baseman Ryan McMahon to the Yankees and saw injuries to Orlando Arcia and Thairo Estrada, Karros was called up to the big-league club. He’s the 12th player to make his debut for the Rockies this season, tying a club record.

Karros told MLB.com that he made a ‘mistake’ in looking at the video after his first big-league at-bat. He was trying to figure out how Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen was planning to pitch him.

“I dumbly looked at the video of the broadcast,” Karros said. “It panned to my dad and mom. They were getting emotional up there. Then I started tearing up in the dugout. I was just trying to analyze what Gallen did to me in my first at-bat.

“I ended up walking away from the iPad with some tears.”

Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer, the former Yard Goats boss, was pleased with Karros’ debut.

“It was pretty cool to see him get that first knock, then a good walk,” Schaeffer told reporters. “It was a good debut for him. Special. His whole family was there.”

Colorado, loaded with former Yard Goats players on its roster, is a major-league-worst 32-88, and on pace to have one of the worst seasons in MLB history, if not the worst. Last year’s Chicago White Sox set a modern-day record with 121 losses.

Since his debut, Karros is hitting .333 with a .417 on-base percentage and 3 RBI.
