The Los Angeles Angels completed a three-game sweep against the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday night, the San Diego Padres did the same against the San Francisco Giants, and the Dodgers are out of first place.
The Padres moved into the top spot in the National League West, routing the Giants 11-1 at San Francisco to go in front of the Dodgers by a game. The Angels rallied for a 7-6 win at Los Angeles for their second straight three-game Freeway Series sweep of the Dodgers this season.
The Padres out-scored the Giants 20-3 in their series. Fernando Tatis drove in three runs for the Padres Wednesday night and Ramon Laureano hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning.
The Angels racked up four runs in 4.1 innings against Shohei Ohtani then went ahead 6-5 on a Logan O’Hoppe two-run single to center field in the eighth. Former Dodger Kenley Jansen nailed down the win for the Angels in the ninth by notching his 23rd save of the season.
The Dodgers will host the Padres in a big three-game series that will start Friday night. The Angels will open a three-game series on the road against the Athletics that night.
Elsewhere, the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-5 at Milwaukee Wednesday for Milwaukee’s 12th straight win. The Brewers own the best record in MLB at 76-44. Â
