As mentioned, the Dbacks got on the Rockies starting pitching early with a 3 run HR from Lourdes Gurriel Jr who has been doing a really nice job picking up the slack in the middle of this order following all the wheeling and dealing at the deadline. The Dbacks offense would be able to keep their foots on the gas pedal scoring 2 more runs in the second inning, and 2 more in the fourth thanks to a 2 run double from our MVP Ketel Marte.
Eduardo Rodriguez looked dominant going 7 strong innings allowing just 1 ER on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts. Juan Morillo followed E Rod with a spotless inning of relief touching 100 mph with his electric fastball.
The story of the day should have been the celebration of our 9th win in 13 games since the trade deadline, however unfortunately the story of today is going to be one of our local ‘reporters’ writing a tabloid article slam piece on our MVP substantiated by baseless claims. Not only am I furious for the story in itself, but even more mad considering the timing of such an article. The guy literally just came up with key winning home runs in back to back 9th innings. Not to mention in a season that has had so much go wrong, we are finally having someone to cheer for and feel good about again. This team is trying to go on a run and this is the coverage they are getting? It is also unfortunate that given the buddy buddy nature of the local reporting no one else was willing to stand up for Ketel and call this guy out on his BS. Fortunately for me, I have no problem taking full advantage of the microscopic bit of platform that I get writing recaps on AZ Snakepit to stand up for our guy! I have no interest in a career in journalism so I have no asses to kiss and I can say what I want. I have been troubled by some of the content that these guys who get paid the big bucks and have the largest platforms in AZ sports for quite awhile, but today put me over the edge. If you are going to slander someone’s good name, you better substantiate it with real quotes with names attached to them. If not, you are no better than a tabloid reporter in the grocery store checkout isle. These ‘reporters’ have no idea what it is like to play a major league season and the toll it takes on the body. Not to mention, when any of us try and critique other player usage, they are the first ones to jump down our throats saying we don’t know what the medical staff recommendations are and Torey has no control over any of that. But its somehow different with Ketel? Shame on you guys. I hope Ketel never does another interview for you again.
So for the rest of us that prefer real journalism and are enjoying this teams little run, enjoy tonight and cheer for the players that deserve it like Ketel Marte. In a season of so much negativity, it is ok to feel positive again.
