The Chicago White Sox broke out the bats and delivered a much-needed win Tuesday night at Guaranteed Rate Field, topping the Detroit Tigers 9-6 behind a breakout performance from rookie catcher Edgar Quero.
Quero Sparks White Sox With Three Hits, Three RBI
The 22-year-old Quero powered Chicago’s offense, finishing 3-for-5 with three RBI, including a solo home run in the seventh inning, his fourth of the season. Quero added a clutch two-run single in the eighth, capping one of his best nights in the majors and providing crucial insurance as the Tigers threatened late.

Game Flow: Big Fifth Inning Swings Momentum
After a rainy delay pushed back first pitch, both starters, Yoendrys Gómez for Chicago and Jack Flaherty for Detroit, traded three scoreless innings. Detroit jumped ahead with a sacrifice fly from Wenceel Pérez in the fourth, but the South Siders took command in a decisive fifth inning.
Curtis Mead tied the game with an infield single, then Colson Montgomery hammered a two-run single to put the White Sox ahead for good. Luis Robert Jr. followed with an RBI single, and a bases-loaded walk to Andrew Benintendi capped the five-run outburst.
Key Offensive Contributions
Colson Montgomery: Two-run single in the fifth that gave Chicago the lead.
Luis Robert Jr.: RBI hit in the fifth, extending the rally.
Curtis Mead: Game-tying RBI single.
Andrew Benintendi: Bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning.
For Detroit, Dillon Dingler smashed a two-run homer in the seventh, while Colt Keith brought late drama with a three-run homer in the ninth.

Yoendrys Gómez Dominates on the Hill
Gómez, who was just called up before Tuesday’s game, delivered five strong innings. He allowed just one hit and one earned run with seven strikeouts. He held a potent Tigers lineup in check, earning a well-deserved victory, while the offense gave Chicago’s bullpen a cushion to work with.
Jack Flaherty (6-12) took the loss for Detroit, surrendering eight hits and five earned runs in just 4.1 innings.
Late Innings: Quero and Leasure Shut the Door
After Dingler cut into the lead with his two-run shot, Quero responded immediately with his solo home run, and then added his two-run single in the eighth. In the ninth, after closer Mike Vasil allowed a three-run blast to Keith, Jordan Leasure entered to secure the final out and his fourth save of the year.
The White Sox tallied 13 hits in total, with all but one starter reaching base on a night where the Chicago offense once again clicked.
What’s Next
Chicago (45-76) looks to capture another series win Wednesday with Shane Smith (3-7, 4.22 ERA) slated to start. The Tigers have yet to announce their starter for the finale, but will try to bounce back from a rare slip against a Sox team hungry for momentum.
