The Iowa Cubs lost to the Worcester Red Sox, 13-10.

Will Sanders started and took the loss after he got rocked for eight runs on seven hits in just 3.2 innings. Sanders gave up two home runs, including one to the first batter of the game. Sanders walked four, hit one batter and struck out nine.

Right fielder Kevin Alcántara hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth, his 16th on the season. Alcántara went 2 for 3 with a double, the home run, two walks and two runs batted in.

Center fielder James Triantos was 2 for 5 with a double and a walk. He also stole a base. Triantos had three RBI and scored twice.

Second baseman Chase Strumpf was 2 for 4 with a walk. He drove in two and scored one run.

The Knoxville Smokies left the Rocket City Trash Pandas (Angels) on the launchpad, 8-6.

Starter Walker Powell only lasted three innings after he got knocked around for five runs on six hits. Three of those six hits were home runs. Powell walked three and struck out one.

Tyler Santana tossed the next 2.2 innings and picked up the win. Santana gave up one run on two hits. The one run came on a solo home run. Santana walked one and struck out one.

Brad Deppermann pitched the ninth inning and surrendered a couple of singles, but pitched out of it, allowed no runs and got the save. Deppermann struck out one and walked no one.

First baseman Pablo Aliendo hit a grand slam in the top of the first inning, his eighth home run this season. Aliendo went 2 for 3 with a walk. He scored twice.

Second baseman Corey Joyce was 1 for 3 and two walks. He scored once and had one run batted in.

The South Bend Cubs fried up the Beloit Sky Carp (Marlins), 6-2. With the win, South Bend moves into first place all by themselves in the second-half of the West Division of the Midwest League, one game ahead of Beloit.

Kevin Valdez started and got the win after surrendering just one run on five hits over 5.1 innings. He walked three and struck out three.

Rehabbing Yency Almonte relieved Valdez and finished the sixth inning. He gave up two hits, one of which was a solo home run. Almonte did not walk nor strike anyone out in his two-thirds of an inning.

First baseman Brian Kalmer tied the game up 1-1 with a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning, his seventh on the season. Kalmer was 2 for 4 with the solo home run and an RBI single in the sixth inning for two total runs batted in.

Catcher Ariel Armas tripled home two runs to start the scoring in a five-run sixth inning. Armas went 2 for 4 and scored once.

Right fielder Rafael Morel had a two-run triple in the sixth. He was 1 for 4 and scored on Kalmer’s single.

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were hypnotized by the Columbia Fireflies (Royals), 7-2.

Nazier Mulé started and took the loss. Mulé gave up four runs on five hits over five innings. He walked four and struck out three.

Edwardo Melendez surrendered three runs on four hits over two innings in his Pelicans debut. He walked one and struck out no one.

Pretty much all of the Birds offense came on a two-run home run in the eighth inning by third baseman Christian Olivo. It was his third home run on the season. Olivo went 2 for 3 with a stolen base.

The Pelicans only had three hits this evening.
