After last night’s loss, the Colorado Rockies are back in action as they attempt to cross the storied win threshold to avoid 2024 White Sox-dom. To that end, they’ll host the Arizona Diamondbacks as the league kicks off its Players Weekend festivities.
Brandon Pfaadt (12-7, 5.03 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Snakes. The Rockies just saw him a few days ago in Arizona, in which he managed to work around 11 hits in five innings to allow just three runs. The third-year southpaw has always had his troubles with Colorado’s lineup (5.26 ERA in five appearances against the Rockies), though does own a winning record of 3-1.

This will be Pfaadt’s second start at elevation, his first having taken place this past June.
Pfaadt’s opponent tonight will be the same as his last time out – Tanner Gordon (2-5, 8.37 ERA). Gordon’s looking to improve upon that most recent outing, a brutal start that saw him accosted by the Diamondbacks for 10 runs in 4 2/3 innings of work. It was Gordon’s third straight start allowing at least six runs, so safe to say there’s some room for improvement tonight.
The good news is that Gordon has pitched far better in the confines of Coors Field than on the road this season (2-2, 5.57 ERA at home vs 0-3, 13.14 ERA away). Maybe his comfortability pitching in the thin air of the mountains will pay dividends tonight?
Manager Warren Schaeffer has decided to welcome Ryan Ritter back from his IL trip with a spot in tonight’s lineup, spelling Ezequiel Tovar. The rest of the batting order is largely the same as it’s looked recently, with Jordan Beck looking to continue his hot August while Hunter Goodman sustains his case for a Silver Slugger.
