Aaron Civale and the White Sox defense had a fairly good night. But the Royals, mostly via Salvy, kept their home win streak alive against their division rival, 3-1
The game started with a single from Miguel Vargas, but he would be stranded. Bobby Witt Jr. singled with one out, and Vinnie Pasquantino followed up with another single. Continuing an unwelcome trend, Maikel Garcia singled, knocking in Witt for the first run of the game. Mike Tauchman made his second helpful catch of the game, ending the inning with two runners left on base.
Edgar Quero beat the play at first after his hit was deflected by Jonathan India. Much like Vargas in the first, Quero also would not advance past first. India picked up a walk to start the bottom of the second, but the Good Guys had a terrific double play to assist Civale.
The White Sox couldn’t do anything offensively in the third, and Civale had a lot of work to do in the bottom of the frame. He thankfully worked around trouble after allowing a double.
With two outs in the top of the fourth, Lenyn Sosa tied the game with a solo homer:
Unfortunately, Salvador Pérez got hold of a fastball to break the tie, but that was it for the fourth inning.
The Sox were retired in order in the fifth. Kyle Isbel singled in the bottom of the frame, but in a pivotal moment, was caught stealing.
Curtis Mead and Colson Montgomery racked up singles in the sixth, with an out between them. Quero picked up a walk to load the bases for Sosa, prompting Royals rookie Noah Cameron to be pulled from the game. Montgomery showed some bad base running, and the runners were stranded after a double play. Kansas City had back-to-back, two-out doubles that extended their lead to 3-1.
Andrew Benintendi replaced Mead to face his old team and singled. But in a tale as old as time, he was stranded. Steven Wilson silenced the Royals for the bottom of the frame, striking out a pair. Carlos Estévez closed out the ninth by striking out the side and ending the game.
To end on happier news, Mark Buehrle pitched tonight for the Savannah Bananas.
