A Chicago Cubs fan retrieved a foul ball and had a little surprise in store for the Marquee Sports Network broadcast during Friday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field.
Ian Happ was up to bat for the Cubs in the bottom of the eighth inning and fouled off a pitch into the seats down the left field line. The ball deflected a few seats back into the hands of a fan.
“Ah, nice grab,” Jon “Boog” Sciambi noted as the fan snagged the baseball.
The fan then stood up and put his arms in the air to celebrate his prize.
“Yes, you’re a champion,” Sciambi said.
But then the celebration took a turn, and those two hands went from acknowledging victory to a double-bird incident as a Marquee camera zoomed in on him.
“Heeeeey,” Sciambi said after the double flip-off.

Color commentator Ryan Dempster had a different reaction to the moment: “Are those readers? Did he have readers on?”
“I think so,” Sciambi replied.
“1.25, probably,” Dempster said.
The fan expressed how Cubs fans would feel in the moments that followed. Jack Suwinski hit a go-ahead home run in the ninth inning to lead the Pirates to a 3-2 win over a Cubs team that’s scuffling in the second half of the MLB season.
