The Sartell Muskies advanced with a 3-1 win Friday over the Elko Express in Class A State Amateur Baseball Tournament in Glencoe.

Faribault High School graduate, former Faribault Lakers ace and major leaguer Jake Petricka started for Elko and went the distance throwing 103 pitches, 68 strikes allowing 8 hits in 8 innings.

Petricka, 37,  struck out 6 Muskies and had no walks with Sartell scoring all their runs in the bottom of the 6th inning.  Austin Henrichs, 21, opened the inning with a single on the first pitch he saw.  He was retired at second base on a grounder by Ethan Carlson, 29, who gained first base,  Carlson is a St. Cloud Apollo graduate.

Andrew Deters, 32,  smacked a single on the first pitch he faced.  Gavin Schulte, 20, of Sartell and St. Mary’s University flew out before Levi Lampert, 21, of Upsala hammered a 1-1 count single to load the bases.  Jace Otto, 31, Blaine graduate, belted a 2-1 count pitch for a double to clear the bases.

Elko’s lone run came in the 9th inning when Easton Richter, 22, Farmington high school graduate pulled a home run over the right field fence.

John Schumer, 32,  threw 104 pitches, 73 strikes while dealing 9 innings, recording 2 strikeouts, walking a batter and allowing 5 hits.  The former St. Johns University hurler graduated from Sartell.

Elko ended their season 18-18 with Petricka achieving a 6-3 record while pitching 75 innings. allowing 59 hits, 32 runs, 25 earned with 85 strikeouts, 9 walks, 3 hit batters,

He tallied a 3.00 ERA with opponents hitting .208 against him.

Other area teams in Class A play Saturday and Sunday at 4:00 p.m.

Rochester Royals go up against Air Freight Unlimited Saturday in Brownton and the Dundas Dukes compete against Highland Park Beavers Sunday,
