Update: Casey Porter of Dodgers Daily provided an update, saying Alexander is not joining the team in LA. It remains to be seen if the team is forced to make a roster move for Muncy or not.
Just got word that this info is not accurate. My apologies for this error; the sources that were used have never been wrong before. Thanks for the understanding. My apologies again, we work very hard at Dodgers Daily to bring 100% accurate information. #dodgers https://t.co/iOyzDL6yXZ

The Los Angeles Dodgers are gearing up for a crucial three-game series against the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium this weekend, and could be without one of their most important players.

All-Star third baseman Max Muncy was scratched from Wednesday’s series finale against the Los Angeles Angels after feeling soreness in his side during his pregame cage work. Muncy underwent testing on Thursday, and the team will provide an update on him ahead of Friday’s series opener.
“Max went into the cage today to start his routine and then felt a little soreness in his side, in his right side,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday. “We just felt that, talking to the training staff, to err on the side of caution.”
Roberts added that Muncy’s injury was “not the same as last year,” when Muncy missed three months with an oblique injury.
According to Casey Porter of Dodgers Daily, the Dodgers have brought utility man CJ Alexander to Los Angeles on the taxi squad, likely as they await a decision on Muncy.
Per Sources: CJ Alexander has been brought to LA as a non-roster taxi in case they need a position player to activate.
This part is opinion, but this is likely in case they have to do something with Muncy, but I have ZERO inside information on that part of it.

Who is CJ Alexander?
Alexander, 29, was claimed off waivers by the Dodgers from the New York Yankees in early July. The left-handed hitting utility man has appeared in 29 games at Triple-A Oklahoma City, slashing .279/.362/.495 with four home runs, 18 RBIs and an OPS of .858.
Alexander can play all over the diamond, with experience at third base, first base and both corner outfield spots at the MLB level. With Triple-A OKC, he’s mainly played first base with some time in left field.

Alexander was initially drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 20th round of the 2018 MLB Draft. He was traded to the Kansas City Royals in 2022, and debuted with Kansas City two years later.
He began the 2025 season with the Athletics, where he appeared in six MLB games, going 3-for-17. Across his 10 career MLB games with the Royals and Athletics, he’s 4-for-25 (.160) with 11 strikeouts.
