Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 6, Jacksonville (Marlins) 4

Mandatory Dylan Beavers update: The prospect served as the designated hitter, with one hit and one walk out of the leadoff spot, although his teammates did not manage to drive him in either time. It was the bottom of the order that dealt the big blow to the Jumbo Shrimp, as #9 hitter Jordyn Adams, optioned away from the Orioles not too long ago, delivered a go-ahead two-run home run in the fourth inning and drove in four runs in the game overall. Emmanuel Rivera and Terrin Vavra each had two hits in the game.

The rehabbing big leaguer party is almost nightly for Norfolk lately. On Friday night, it was Tyler Wells who took his turn. Wells cleared five innings on 77 pitches, which has to get him pretty close to where the Orioles will be ready to activate him. The results weren’t quite there, as he allowed three runs on six hits and a walk. Nonetheless, all of this was enough for the Tides to take a slim lead into the ninth. They called upon recent trade acquisition Anthony Nunez to get the save. Nunez walked the leadoff batter before retiring the next three to close it out.

Double-A: Erie (Tigers) 7, Chesapeake Baysox 5 – 12 innings

Lots of activity late in this one, with Erie breaking a tie in the top of the ninth and the Baysox scoring to tie it again and send it to extras. In the 11th inning, Erie scored its Manfred Man, while in the bottom half of the inning, Chesapeake managed to load the bases with nobody out. They could only score the tying run. Erie plated two more in the 12th and while Chesapeake again loaded the bases with nobody out, they did not score any runs. Austin Overn grounded into a game-ending double play. He was 0-5 in this contest.

Not a good one for the Baysox offense, despite the five runs, as they had only seven hits across the game’s 12 innings. They should have scored a lot more than they did: The guys were just 1-13 with RISP in the game. And they didn’t even score a run on the one hit! My man Aron Estrada delivered in the ninth, tying the game with his fourth Double-A homer in just 14 games. This was his lone hit in six tries. Enrique Bradfield walked once, stole his 17th base, and eventually was replaced in the lineup by Anthony Servideo. I don’t know what that was about.

High-A: Hudson Valley (Yankees) 5, Aberdeen IronBirds 2

Hudson Valley put up a four-spot in the first inning. More impressive/awful still, they scored those four runs before they even recorded an out. Aberdeen’s starter Juan Rojas took the no-outer, facing six batters and allowing three hits, two walks, and a hit batter. Rough day. The Renegades had only five hits in the game, but this proved to be enough.

The IronBirds didn’t get much going against Renegades starter Xavier Rivas, or against any of the opposing pitchers. That’s all-too-common this season. Rivas struck out 12 batters over a seven inning start, allowing just three hits and two walks. Aberdeen had only four hits in the game. As is his way, Vance Honeycutt went hitless with three strikeouts. Tough going. Recent sensation Nate George had one of the four hits, as did Ethan Anderson. The 1B/C/DH has come on strong in August after three tough months in a row.

L0w-A: Lynchburg (Guardians) 2, Delmarva Shorebirds 1

Neither team scored in this one until the Shorebirds got a run across in the eighth inning, when one of the Orioles high draft picks this year, Caden Bodine, hit a single to drive in another, Wehiwa Aloy. Each of these guys, along with Ike Irish, only reached base once in the game. They made it count. Outfielder Braylin Tavera, not a 2025 draft pick, led the way with two hits. Bodine is batting .545 in his early professional days. I mean early: He’s only played in three games so far.

This was a fine outing for starting pitcher Carson Dorsey, a seventh round pick a year ago. Dorsey struck out five batters over 5.1 innings, allowing just one hit while handing out zero walks. He’s got a 5.74 ERA through eight Delmarva games now. The blown save and loss went to reliever Luis Beltrán, who ended up balking in the tying run before allowing a sacrifice fly for the walkoff loss.
