The Mariners went back-and-forth in a slugfest in Queens last night, ultimately prevailing in the Mets’ seventh consecutive blown lead. Seattle has now won seven of their last ten against their spiritual sister team. They’ll look to make it eight of 11 today by giving the ball to their most consistent starting pitcher, Bryan Woo. Woo is coming off one of his rougher outings of the year, but with the year he’s having, that still amounted to a quality start and tying his career high with nine strikeouts. This will be the young hurler’s first career start against the Mets.

The Mets will counter with Nolan McLean, who will be making his MLB debut. Lookout Landing’s love of debuts extends beyond those who play for the Mariners, so a hearty congratulations to McLean, and I’m sorry it has to come against such a potent lineup. To make room for McLean on the roster, the Mets DFA’d Paul Blackburn, who you might remember from his three months in the Mariners organization in 2016 in between being the secondary piece of the Daniel Vogelbach trade and being shipped out for Danny Valencia.

Nothing fancy from Dan Wilson today.

TV: ROOT Sports, with Brad Adam and Rick Rizzs alternately filling in for Aaron Goldsmith on play-by-play while Hyphen does the color. Personally, I think if Goldy’s going to be on vacation during Players Weekend, ROOT ought to lean into it and make it a PlayerCast, with Hyphen, Angie, and Valle. Maybe they could even convince Mike Blowers to show up. But ROOT didn’t ask me for my opinion before making their plans. They never do.

Harry Ford hit another home run last night, his 15th on the year, which ties his career high from 2023, though he’s played in 30 fewer games this year.
