Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Bobby Miller has experienced, as much as anyone, the ups and downs of being an MLB pitcher.

After an electric rookie season with LA in 2023 that ended with being trusted to start an NLDS game at just 24 years old, Miller hasn’t quite recaptured the same success. After an inflated ERA in 2024, along with shoulder complications that season slowed him down, 2025 looked to be an excellent opportunity for a comeback season.

Unfortunately, Miller’s season started off in unnerving fashion, as he was struck in the head by a 106 mph line drive on just the 12th pitch of spring training. After being able to stand and walk off the field under his own power, Miller fell out of the spring training race to be the fifth starting pitcher, and has made 23 Triple-A appearances, resulting in a 5.12 ERA.

After struggling as a starting pitcher, the Dodgers opted to shift Miller to a bullpen role recently, hoping to tap into his unrealized potential.

As Miller started transitioning from a starter to a reliever, he told Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain about crossing paths with All-Star right-hander Blake Treinen.

“Even when [Blake] Treinen was here rehabbing, he was here for me as well. He was there for my first day transitioning to the bullpen in Reno, Nevada, and he was one of the first guys to come up to me and reach out and say like, ‘If you need anything or need any help, you know that I’m here for you.’

“That was really nice to hear because he’s a great teammate and great person.”

Amid the constant uncertainty surrounding Miller’s play, getting pointers from a formidable bullpen presence should be extremely promising to anyone working toward a new role in relief.

Since transitioning to the bullpen, Miller has made seven appearances, allowing just one run across eight innings of work for a 1.13 ERA. He has six strikeouts.
