NY Mets: What stood out about Pete Alonso breaking team home run record

Pete Alonso proved himself to be the Mets franchise’s preeminent power hitter when he set the club record with his 253rd home run on Aug. 13, 2025.

NEW YORK — The Mets are hoping that the debut of one of their promising young arms can help to lift their spirits and help an ailing pitching staff.

Nolan McLean, the club’s top pitching and No. 3 overall prospect, will make his first start for the Mets in their 4:10 p.m. contest on Saturday against the Mariners at Citi Field.

McLean, who moved up to Triple A for the first time in early May, was 5-4 with a 2.78 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 16 appearances for Syracuse this season.

The Mets are coming off their third straight loss on Friday night as the bullpen caved in an 11-9 loss despite a pair of home runs from Francisco Lindor.

The Mariners have All-Star Bryan Woo on the mound for Saturday. The right-hander is 10-6 with a 3.08 ERA and 0.95 WHIP.
