In minor league games for Saturday, the Dodgers’ trade deadline pickups are outperforming their histories, top pitching prospect Jackson Ferris notches a win, and 18-year-old Emil Morales has been outshining highly regarded prospects ranked above him.

Adam Serwinowski, who was one of the pieces the Dodgers received in the Hunter Feduccia package, pitched his third stellar game in a row since becoming a Dodgers farmhand. In this game, he pitched five and two-thirds innings, surrendering no runs on two hits. He came to the Dodgers with a 4.84 ERA, pitching in the same Midwest League, but in 17 innings for the Great Lakes Loons, his ERA is a minuscule 0.53. When asked to explain such a drastic difference in results, his answer gave insight into the inner workings of the Dodgers’ mystique.

“When I reported to the Dodgers, Andrew Friedman took me to a room where Sandy Koufax was sitting on a wooden throne made entirely from the bats he shattered during his reign,” Serwinowski might have said. ”I was told to bend the knee, and Koufax laid a mini-bat over my right shoulder and said, ’“I dub thee Ser Winowski. Go forth with spin and velocity. I bless you with 1000 pitches before your arm breaks. Use them well.’””

The Albuquerque Isotopes (Rockies) outscored the Oklahoma City Comets 7-5 behind a near cycle by first baseman Michael Toglia, who had two singles, a triple, and a homer. Matt Sauer started for OKC and gave up five runs in five innings. Michael Kopech completed a scoreless inning, striking out two, and giving up a hit and a walk.

Jackson Ferris got credit for his eighth win on the season with five innings of one-run ball as the Tulsa Drillers defeated the San Antonio Missions (Padres) 5-3. The Drillers, who lacked exciting position prospects for most of the season, have gotten a shot in the arm by trading deadline additions James Tibbs lll and Zach Ehrhard. Since joining the Drillers, Tibbs has an OPS of 1.000, and Ehrhard 1.058. Not coincidentally, the 53-60 Drillers have won eight games in a row. In this game, Tibbs and Ehrhard had four of the Drillers’ six hits, and contributed to four of the five runs scored.

The Loons shut out the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers) 7-0 behind Serwinowski and three relievers holding Wisconsin to three singles. The game was scoreless through five innings, but the Rattlers shed skin when they walked six batters in the sixth inning. A double by Logan Wagner was the only hit in the four-run inning. The Loons put the game away in the eighth inning, when, with two men on base, Elijah Hainline singled, and stretched it into a home run for three more runs (ok he didn’t get credit with a home run, but he scored on the play somehow, must have been a doozy of a throwing error by the catcher. Kendall George went hitless, which limited him to three stolen bases.

It took all of five pitches for the Quakes to put three runs on the board, on the way to a 7-3 win over the Visalia Rawhide (Diamondbacks). Emil Morales was hit by the first pitch of the game, Jaron Elkins singled, and Chase Harlan homered to complete the wake-up call. These three atop the batting order accounted for eight of the Quakes’ ten hits, and all seven of their runs. Morales had three hits and three RBIs, and the 18-year-old, seventh-ranked Dodgers prospect by MLB Pipeline, has a stat-line of .317/.394/.556 in 63 at-bats for RC after putting up a line of .300/.383/.498 in Rookie ball. Elkins had three hits, including a double.
