The Texas Rangers have placed pitcher Jon Gray and outfielder Sam Haggerty on the injured list, the team announced today. To take their places on the active roster, the Rangers have recalled pitcher Caleb Boushley and infielder Cody Freeman.

Gray pitched yesterday, not well, and is apparently dealing with a nerve issue. Given that he is now on the 15 day injured list, and it is currently August 17, it appears he will not be placed on outright waivers again in time for a team to claim him and add him to their organization prior to August 31, which is when players have to be in a team’s organization to be eligible for the playoff roster.

Haggerty, who was on the injured list previously with an ankle injury, is apparently having issues with it again, so he goes on the 10 day injured list.

Boushley replaces Gray as the long man/multi-inning reliever in the bullpen. Freeman, meanwhile, gives the Rangers a righthanded bench bat/emergency third catcher option. Freeman is having an excellent season for Round Rock, slashing .336/.382/.549 in 426 plate appearances, and since being sent back to AAA in late July he is slashing .429/.453/.800 in 76 plate appearances, with 7 homers, 4 walks and 6 Ks.
