Sean Barnard gives his top DraftKings MLB Pick6 plays and projections for today’s MLB slate.
All 30 MLB teams are in action today. The Phillies and Nationals kicked things off with an 11:35 a.m. ET first pitch. Games are taking place all across the afternoon, building out to a Sunday Night Baseball matchup between the Mets and Mariners. There are plenty of ways of getting involved in the action. One of the more unique ways is with one of the newest features on DraftKings this year is Pick6 Fantasy Baseball!
This article will look at my top Pick6 plays for today’s action. You simply choose whether each set statistic will be more or less than the set number. With the stage set, here are my favorite picks on tonight’s MLB slate.
Jazz Chisholm More Than 1.5 Total Bases

Jazz Chisholm earned his second All-Star appearance this season and is slashing .238/.332/.473 on the year. He has begun to find his power again with two home runs in his past five games, bringing his total to 21 on the season. Miles Mikolas will be on the mound for the Cardinals and enters with a 4.97 ERA. Left-handed hitters are batting .269 with a .804 OPS against Mikolas this season. He has also given up six home runs in his past five starts.
Chisholm is 3-4 in his career against Mikolas with a double and a pair of singles. So far this season, he is posting a .859 OPS and .523 slugging against right-handed pitching compared to .657 and .33 against lefties. While he was held hitless yesterday, the Yankees standout has tallied more than 1.5 total bases in three of his past five games. Chisholm is trending in the right direction at the plate and has a friendly match-up with Mikolas on the mound.
Miles Mikolas Less Than 3.5 Strikeouts Thrown

On the other side of the matchup, it is not as favorable of outlook for Mikolas. The Cardinals’ starter has allowed 126 hits and 65 earned runs across his first 117.2 innings pitched. He is posting a 4.97 ERA on the season, but this number has increased to 6.07 across his past 11 starts. He is allowing a .355 batting average and .559 slugging percentage on non-fastballs this season, which is the highest rate among qualified starting pitchers. Opponents are also posting just a 16% miss rate and a 14% two-strike miss rate, which are each the lowest among qualified starting pitchers on the season.
Mikolas has just 79 total strikeouts on the season, too. The 36-year-old has logged fewer than 3.5 strikeouts in 12 of 23 games, which includes being held below this margin in four of his last five starts. The Yankees rank first in the MLB in total bases, OPS, slugging percentage, and have tallied the third-most total runs as a team. It would not be a huge surprise if the Cardinals’ starter is chased from the matchup early, with New York sure to capitalize if he does not look sharp. Expect Mikolas’ tough stretch to continue and for him to be held to less than 3.5 strikeouts tonight.
Ketel Marte More Than 0.5 Runs Batted In

The Diamondbacks will wrap up a four-game series in Colorado today with Kyle Freeland on the mound. This is an especially friendly hitters’ matchup at Coors Field. Freeland is posting a 5.18 ERA this season and is allowing 1.48 home runs per nine innings against right-handed hitters. 15 of his 16 home runs allowed have come against righties. Freeland has been especially vulnerable when throwing his four-seam fastball and cutter.
Ketel Marte has been productive against Freeland in his career. He has 17 hits across 48 at-bats, including three home runs, five doubles, and six RBIs. He is hitting .354 against Freeland in his career and enters on a five-game hitting streak with 15 hits across his past nine games. Marte also has 10 home runs hit off four-seamers and cutters already this year. With warm weather, a friendly pitching matchup, a hitters’ ballpark, and Marte riding a hot streak, look for the Diamondbacks’ standout to add to his 56 RBI tally this season.
Willy Adames More Than 0.5 Home Runs

Ryan Pepiot will be on the mound for the Rays as they face off with the Giants today. The right-hander has been vulnerable to giving up home runs this year, with 26 allowed already. 16 of these have come against right-handed hitters, with opposing hitters producing. .345 wOBA and .481 slugging from this side of the plate. These are roughly 100 points higher than the metrics against lefties.
Willy Adames has notched a home run already in this series and is up to 19 on the season. He has hit 14 of these 19 home runs against right-handed pitching with a .422 slugging percentage and .329 wOBA. The Giants’ shortstop has one home run in five at-bats against Pepiot in his career, and the wind will be pushing out to left-center field at 12 to 15 miles per hour tonight.
Juan Soto Less Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs

The Mets will face the Mariners tonight in this year’s Little League Classic. Juan Soto is the only player on either roster with experience in the event after going 0-for-3 last year while suiting up for the Yankees. George Kirby will be on the mound for Seattle and enters with a 2.32 ERA and 27.1% strikeout rate across his past nine starts. Kirby has allowed just two home runs in his past 54.1 innings pitched and has above a 30% whiff rate on his four-seam fastball and slider over this stretch. He is the only pitcher in baseball to reach this mark over this period.
Soto has been hot at the plate with five home runs in the past nine games, but Kirby has been effective in limiting this. Walks not counting toward Soto’s hit total are important to note, with an MLB-best 93 walks tallied this year. I am fading just about everything Mets for tonight with Kirby looking to be in such a groove, and Soto is not exempt from this.
Julio Rodriguez More Than 0.5 Home Runs

On the other side of the matchup, Julio Rodriguez has a more favorable outlook with Clay Holmes on the mound. While the two-time All-Star is posting a 3.71 ERA on the season, he has given up seven runs in his first two starts in August and 17 hits across his past three starts. Holmes has been especially hit hard when leaning on his sinker and slider.
Rodriguez looks to be finding his stride in the second half of the season. He has 13 home runs since the beginning of July and is posting a .331 wOBA and .439 slugging percentage against right-handed pitching. He has seven home runs off sinkers and sliders this season, and his exit velocity has jumped nearly 12 miles per hour across his past five games compared to his season average. The outfield dimensions will be slightly smaller than a typical MLB game due to the Little League Classic, with the pull side for Rodriguez especially friendly. The Mariners slugger has two home runs in his past seven games, and tonight’s game is a great chance to add to this with the friendly dimensions in mind.
