A day after reporting soreness following his first minor-league rehab start for a flexor strain, Cincinnati Reds left-hander Wade Miley was shut down again as the Reds returned him from his rehab assignment.
It’s unclear what the next step might be for Miley, 38, who returned on a pushed timeline this season from Tommy John surgery to make three appearances for the Reds, helping the Reds win both starts he made.

Soreness at that point led to an MRI, which landed Miley back on the injured list for a flexor strain near the elbow.

He chose to try to rehab the strain in an effort to get back this season and help the Reds’ pitching depth but said then that he likely would not undergo another surgery for a comeback attempt beyond that.
Miley threw his prescribed workload limit for Double-A Chattanooga on Aug. 15 and reported being “a little sore” the next day, Reds manager Terry Francona said.

He was scheduled to move up to Triple-A Louisville for a second rehab start Aug. 21, pending the nature of the soreness.
Miley has pitched 15 seasons in the majors with eight teams, including two stints with the Reds.
The 2012 All-Star has a 109-99 record and 4.09 ERA in 320 career appearances, including 312 starts.
